My Visit to MOSI in Tampa, Florida

This past week I visited the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, Florida during a 6 hour layover on my way to Toronto. The museum, sometimes called by its acronym, MOSI, was a good experience overall and helped pass time by as we waited for our connecting flight. Here are my Museum Pros and Cons and a breakdown of my overall experience.

Pros:

  1. Good Variety of Exhibits: The museum offers a pretty good amount of different attractions that offered some pretty interesting and unique experiences, such as the Bed of Nails and a butterfly exhibit.
  2. Interactive Exhibits: In addition to having a good variety, many of the exhibits were also interactive, which I thought was pretty cool. They offered some hands-on activities, which I think would be even more exciting for younger visitors.

Cons:

  1. Outdated Exhibits: A lot of the featured exhibits felt a bit outdated.
  2. Lackluster Presentation: Some exhibits lacked engaging presentation, leaving me personally feeling disinterested in some of the exhibits, and I lost interest pretty quickly in the ones that were initially interesting looking, but just didn’t manage to remain interesting and engaging for very long.
  3. Underwhelming and Pricey Add-Ons: Additional experiences like the $8 VR experience seemed a bit cool but were a bit expensive, given the cost of admission was $14 for adults, and $10 for kids just to get into the museum.

My Overall Experience and Final Thoughts: My visit was filled with moments of interest, particularly in the illusions exhibit, but overall, I felt underwhelmed throughout my time exploring the museum.

Rating: Given the mixed experience and considering both the positives and negatives, I think a fair rating for the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, Florida, would be around a 6 out of 10. While it has its good stuff here and there, there was lots of room for improvement to improve the overall visitor experience.
